Just be aware before purchasing the Bodum French Press, again. The beaker breaks, easily.

I have cracked three of them and I am done with this product. Once the glass cracked when I added hot water! Isn't that the point? It's a useful product and I enjoy it but expect to go through them fairly often.

If you dont mind buying them over and over then you'll enjoy it. It's just really frustrating because it is painfully obvious that Bodum intentionally does this.

I've never seen glass this weak and breaks at the slightest touch. I would say save your money and don't buy any of their products.

Monetary Loss: $30.

NOT AN OPERATOR ISSUE! I am very careful and still the Bodum beakers keep breaking.

I don't have this problem with other presses. What's worse is that it costs as much as a new press to buy a shatterproof beaker.

Shame on Bodum! Those who haven't broken a Bodum beaker are just lucky.

These have been recalled.Return them where you purchased them for a refund.

This is not an operator problem. We had a small 2-3 cup bodum press for maybe 6 years.

about a month ago, it cracked when I poured hot water into it. It was still usable, but I always kept it in the sink. Then it finally cracked and split apart this week, spilling coffee all over the sink, luckily. I did not have it hot, then rinse it in cold or vice versa.

The product cracked. It shouldn't crack, just like a transmission shouldn't break on a car. I was hoping they had some lifetime guarantee, but I guess, ha, reading these comments, nothing of the kind.

I'd be very cautious in buying another bodum product, this very much disappoints me. Poor craftmansship, not pilot error.

STOP USING BOILING WATER. Follow the directions that come with your press! Boiling water is TOO hot.

My first Bodum French Press purchased from World Market about 2 years ago broke about 9 months later while I was gently pushing the screen through the container. There was no physical harm done and I thought the issue was with that specific coffee pot.

I returned and PURCHASED a 2nd because I didn't think it was worth the hassle after the amount of time that had passed and the amount of usage I had gotten out of the pot. Well now, a little over a year after having the 2nd pot, the same thing happened. I BARELY pushed the plunger into the pot and the glass split right down the middle. I had a whole pot of boiling hot water splash onto my stomach and leg causing the skin to come off and it hurts like a SOB.

I hate companies that cheapen the quality of their product at the potential physical harm of their customers just to save a few cents on the manufacturing costs. Grrrrrrr!

It's NOT the operators!! We've used Bodum french presses for years.

One broke once after falling in the sink, but that was our fault. So last week on Thanksgiving morning, I poured hot water into our 2 yr old Bodum french press. Stirred the coffee. Put in the plunger and lid.

Waited my 4 min. Half way down, the glass suddenly shattered and boiling hot coffee sprayed all over me! I literally had 2nd degree burns all over my stomach--no joke. It scalded me right through my blouse.

It was extremely painful. Ruined my Thanksgiving.

I'm sending the carafe back to the company and will think twice before I EVER use a Bodum glass french press ever again. Switching to plastic.

I have pyrex glassware that is 30 years old. Obviously Bodum chooses to use this thin glass because you'll need to turn around and buy a replacement glass every 6 months or so for the rest of your life.

This is a cooking utensil, not a piece of frickin' cartier jewelry!

They could make it twice as durable at very little cost, but why should they as long as we keep going back and buying more. BAN BODUM!!

On my second french press. First one developed a crack in the bottom.

Replaced. Second one chipped on the spout then shortly after that developed a crack on the side. Like the OP, this is *not* an operator problem. We have fine china that's been passed down through the family since the '30s that has had no incidents, fragile wine glasses - no problem there.

But even with careful, mindful handling of the Bodum, I can't see to get away from this problem. Won't be buying a third!!

Not an operator problem... I have had glass cups for years and they never break, despite much rougher physical and drastic hot/cold treatment. The Bodum beaker seems particularly thin to me.

Had the same problem with my Bodum french press - the bottom of the glass beaker cracked and a chunk fell out, without ever dropping or hitting the beaker. Must have been a manufacturing defect.

Bought it two months ago, but can't find the receipt and I don't want to bug my local coffee bean roaster. Bodum's web site says no warranty on glass...

wtf? Time to swirch to a different manufacturer...

I have been using the same Bodum french press for many years and never had an issue, even moved the darn thing 3 times (twice across the country). Like any glass, if you run it under cold water while hot, it will break.

If you drop it or bang it, it will break. However that is because it is made of glass!

I've had my Bodum French Press for nearly 4 years. I use it at least twice a day, every day.

It's never cracked or broken in any way, shape or form. Sounds like "operator problems" to me.
